Abstract: Fin dalla sua prima comparsa il 14 Febbraio 1895, The Importance of Being Earnest è stato sempre un successo letterario e teatrale.

Abstract: Wilde's only novel, first published in 1890, is a brilliantly designed puzzle, intended to tease conventional minds with its exploration of the myriad interrelationships between art, life, and consequence. From its provocative Preface, challenging the reader to believe in art for art s sake , to its sensational conclusion, the story self-consciously experiments with the notion of sin as an element of design. Yet Wilde himself underestimated the consequences of his experiment, and its capacity to outrage the Victorian establishment. Its words returned to haunt him in his court appearances in 1895, and he later recalled the note of doom which runs like a purple thread through its carefully crafted prose.

Abstract: This edition of Wilde's infamous novel of spiritual corruption in which a young man exchanges his soul for eternal youth to indulge in his desires features Ackroyd's preface from the original Penguin Classics edition. Dorian Gray has just had his portrait painted. It is a perfect likeness of the quite extraordinary beautiful young man, and it prompts him to make a mad wish for eternal youth. In the years to come, he devotes his public life to and aestheticism-and his private one to decadence and debauchery. Età di lettura: da 14 anni

In ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’ un piccolo usignolo si sacrifica per aiutare un giovane studente innamorato.
